for me its two games, and both of them are Dragon Quest games.

DQM:J and DQ IV. i just don't get the appeal.

Joker, first of all is just very boring. i love grinding and i don't mind slow battle system, but in Joker. it was just too much. not to mention the games story is really rubbish and the characters are just one dimensional. the game is not appealing how ever you see it.

am playing DQ IV right now and am not impressed so far. but am playing it for only 2 hours, so lets see how it goes.

Tie between Revenant Wings and Crystal Chronicles. I just never really got into them, which is unusual for an FF game.

Sonic Chronicles, Don't get me wrong I love sonic, but the game...It just doesn't feel like a sonic game :\

(I can't remeber if this game was 2007 or 2008 but anyway)

Legend of Zelda:Phantom Hourglass, Again I like the Zelda series but didn't like this game. graphics were odd (64 bit cel-shading?), the controls and Ds gimmicks got boring after awhle and The music was just repetitive.

*runs from zelda fanboys*

My biggest disappointment was Need for Speed : Undercover. I was expecting to be amazing like the Need for Speed Most Wanted but it ended up a big disappointment. Ah well, back to Trackmania then....

I didn't like Phantom Hourglass all that much because it felt dumbed-down compared to the other 2D Zeldas.

Why is there a Most Disappointing DS Game thread (and one for the Wii as well, come to think of it), but no Best DS Game of 2008 or anything like that?

Advance Wars Dark Conflict. It was so very disappointing after the groundwork and charm of the first three.

Don't get me wrong, I had no problem with the new art and story direction, but they just screwed with the mechanics a little too much, for my liking. It just didn't all click like it used to. That and there were far less options and game modes, unlike Dual Strike which was brimming with them.

Different strokes for different folks, I guess. I thought everything about the game was boring. I've tried several times to get back into it (I'm at chapter 5) but I can only stomach a couple of battles at a time.

SE game of the year for me is either Dragon Quest Monsters or Final Fantasy Tactics A2. I spent countless hours on those little beauties.

different stroke for different people indeed. I haven't bought FF Tactics A2 (i swear will buy it when the exams is over) but i found DQM:J one of the most boring games i ever played. slow battle system and grindfest structure, was really the thing that made me dislike the game. while weak storyline, horrible translation and rubbish characteristics made me hate the game.

but i respect your opinion, and i may actually see why people like it so much, if only i could, and god now how hard i tried. Sad

Fire Emblem was pretty dire. It's effectively an 18 year old game with updated graphics and online play. Doesn't help that the story featured only THREE characters; two of which unplayable which lead to everyone except Marth having no development which FE, at times does quite well at doing so.

Dark Conflict was disappointing in a way too. The lack of a Battle Shop, which has been in the previous 3 AWs is inexcusable. With no unlockable maps the game already loses some replay value the previous 3 had. The only other thing that erked me were the purple battlefields. In some later maps the battlefield is a lush green, in some before it's a horrible purple colour. If the world got hit by a meteor strike that killed 90% of the human race, that suggests the meteor strike hit the whole planet. Wouldn't the whole planet be purple then rather than a few select areas?

Joker ain't a grindfest. Well, not once you start synthesizing, anyway. Levels are pretty meaningless in the grand scheme of things. I could have a level 1 King Slime which is stronger than one a good few levels higher than it. Joker really isn't the sort of RPG where you can say "you must be at least level [insert number here] if you're going to get past the next boss", or whatever. Because levels aren't necessarily an indication of a monster's overall strength.

What was your problem with the translation? Nothing wrong with it as far as I can see.

well, you can't synthesize until you are at level 10 or more no? getting there takes time. Also when synthesizing, your new Monster might not go up in the ranks. this one of those game i really didn't want to use FAQ to beat, however i was wrong. many of my synthesized monster were really weak compared to their parents. also getting all females didn't help me like the game either.

and whats wrong with translation you say? oh comae on, of all the things you could hate about the game, the script was the most noticeable, it was really basic and really weak, 3 year old could write those dialog and i think the translation from SE Europe might be the problem, since no one complained about the story in japan, since the game sold like hot cakes.

all in all, its just my stupid opinion that i really didn't like this game, i really tried to like it, but failed.

It takes a while to get to level 10 at the start, but it gets easier as the game goes on, and by the time you start synthesizing seriously it takes no time at all.

Going up in rank isn't the only thing you synth for. The "parents'" stats determine both the monsters starting stats and growth, so eventually it will surpass both of them, and it will be far stronger at level 1 than a freshly-caught monster.

The script was passable. DQM isn't really a story-driven game anyway, so I don't see how it could've been improved. When you said you had a problem with the translation I thought you meant "all your base are belong to us" -style errors.

About the FAQ thing...I'll give you that, but only to a certain extent. There are some monsters which require a four-way synthesis, and while the likes of King Slime are easy enough to figure out, others just...well, aren't. You pretty much need to use a guide. And that ain't cool.
