I just played this little 5 minute PC game a few hours ago and after reflecting on it, i realised that despite its simplicity, it acheives one thing, fundemental to most games, better than most games.

So please take 5 mins of your precious time to have your perspective on one part of games changed forever.

Passage:

Supplementary reading (FINISH FIRST):

And I want to hear no moaning about the graphics, they work!

ENJOY!

Passage is indeed a terrifically poignant 'thing-to-do'. The music made my eyes sad. Whilst thinking about the silliness of the author in presuming that everyone will get a female/long-haired person, she/it died! A truly shocking moment, I hadn't expected it at all. One criticism I can develop of it is this: I would've thought as one progresses through life, they'd be more 'skilled' in seeing what is to come. Walking into the obstructions as an old man shouldn't have happened, his experience of his life would've been to waste. However, one can interpret it differently. The path behind the character extends as their history does.

Quite cool. Not really a game, more an idea presented in interactive form.

Yes

It is a great way of showing how games as an interactive medium can present ideas or concepts such as this one in different and original ways.

Make sure to read the extra reading though, tis intresting stuff.

You reckon?

I found it unbelievably boring, and this message I'm supposed to be getting was clique and poorly implemented.

Isn't that the whole point of art, that different people have different and individual receptions and interpretations of the piece presented.

Yes, but I never said it wasn't art. I just said it was boring, and missed the point it was aiming for.

I just watched a playthrough on youtube and it seems pretty naff. You walk around a bit dodging things, then you die.

It's art, but not a game. A game has to be fun (or attempts to be if you regard SEGA's current state). It's more of a piece of interactive software.

I see a small pixellated man, a small pixellated woman, and some blurry crap I can't make out.

So I just hold right?

Damn I made this thread a long time ago.

It's pretty cool still, but I would now agree with Donal, though it does demonstrate what games are capable of as an artistic medium.

High scores to be edited into OP: 622 rutters.

Thought it was dire, I'd rather buy Carnival Games or Imagine: Crack Dealing.

If you want something to move you, listen to music or read a book.

Already did. Guy walks right, wife dies, he dies, FIN.

I'm a sucker for spoiler boxes.

I wouldn't say it's a game per se, more like interactive art. Which is, in my opinion, the best kind of art.

Different people can have different reactions, "receptions" and interpretations of a photo of me with a massive boner, but that doesn't make it art. That makes it a photo of me with a big boner.

You have to give up on Art, seriously... it's a dead end... It's useless, unless it's done well.. and there are so many idiots who try it and think they're being really clever with it, but it's not clever, it's a painting of a turd. Many many many things shouldn't be interpreted, needn't be interpreted and others can't be interpreted.

Art is nice pictures which are nice to hang on your wall. Some things move you, others don't... I'd react to and be moved by my mothers death.. that doesn't make it art. Interpretations are pointless, and they can be anything. Say we have a photo of Obama holding a gun to Rasputin's head... There are a wealth of interpretations to that.. but that doesn't make any of them good, useful, or NOT utterly pointless. It's just a stupid image... It's better to assume it means nothing.

One thing about Art is to know what is and what isn't art.. and to know what is interpretable and what isn't. If you try to interpret something which isn't supposed to be interpreted, you look like a total idiot.

Now.. Passage.. It has nothing profound to tell us, there is nothing interesting in it. The only (ludicrosly) obvious interpretation is that it represents life... We find a girl, stay with her all our lives, and then die at the end, and there are a few obstacles along the way (lol, nice visual metaphor, mayte). Aside from the fact that this is an absurdly simplistic view of life, it's also a clichéd and obvious view of life.. there's nothing new here, it's a piece of crap.

Passage is the most pretentious, crappy, and above all boring application ever committed to .exe form.
