Rhythm Action Games are very popular at the moment, thus, there are plenty of the DS. Here, you can chat about them.

Games currently available

Elite Beat Agents
The objective of this game is to tap the numbers on the touch screen as the circle surrounding them closes in on them. While it sounds basic, it is one of the hardest games on DS, in my opinion. It features a total of 20 songs, 3 of which unlock over the course of the game. These are all covers, but are very good. The song list includes classic like Jumping Jack Flash by the Rolling Stones, and newer songs like Skater Boy by Avril Lavigne.

Guitar Hero: On Tour
Imagine Guitar Hero, but on DS. That's about it. The game comes with a guitar grip which plugs into the GBA slot. You then hold the DS like you would with Brain Training, and strum along, with the special stylus pick. The song list includes songs like This Love by Maroon 5, and All the Small Things by Blink 182.

Osu Tatakae Ouendan
This is pretty much the japanese version of Elite Beat Agents. It came out before EBA, so really EBA is just the localized version. Anyway, tracks include Loop & Loop by Asian Kung Fu Generation and other JPop.

I might add there is a sequel to this game which I presume is extremeley similar.

Diagasso Band Brothers
Daigasso! Band Brothers is a game where you press buttons in time with the song playing (as it's Japan-only, it's mainly J-Pop/Rock, but there's Nintendo tunes, too). However, that's only half the game. With the game is a powerful song creator, where you can make any song you can think of using real notation, and you can play along to it. There's also a sequel, called Daigasso! Band Brothers DX, and there have been rumours of an American version, re-named Jam With The Band.

If anyone disagrees with my post, or would like to add details, then just post and I shall edit in later. I would also appreciate if people did similar things for any games I have missed. Such as Diagassou Band Brothers, which I know nothing about.

Once again, help editing in here is appreciated
Games to come

Rhythm Heaven
Honestly, this game looks to be very confusing. Yet, I am anticipating it. According to ONM, the player holds the DS like in Brain Training, and taps, slides and flicks to the beat.

Also, Rhythm Heaven is the sequel to Rhythm Tengoku (translated as Rhythm Heaven) on the GBA and Arcade in Japan. The best way to imagine it is to think Wario Ware. There's loads of mini-games, and they all test your rhythm.

Can't think of anymore, but this will be updated with any news.

Thanks a lot Oni, I'll be editing in a minute.

And yeah, Rhythm Heaven does look great fun. I really hope it gets a UK release, though I don't see why it shouldn't if it's being released in America.

And a side note, I finally managed to do Jumpin' Jack Flash on Sweatin' difficulty last night. If anyone else has tried it, they'll know exactly how hard it is.

There's also the decent Taiko No Tatsujin and its sequel on the DS rhythm action scene. Draglade, Nodame Cantabile and Looney Tunes: Cartoon Concerto could also be included.
Ouendan is the best by far of all the rhythm action games on the DS though...

I've only played, and fully completed, EBA. This game is genius as it has great use of the touch screen, great comedy and an excellent soundtrack. 9/10. Very Happy

Daigasso! Band Brothers also has a DS sequel which adds karaoke (which is very hard when you don't know the song and can't read Japanese), a variety of touch screen instruments (the guitar alone is much better than Jam Sessions on DS) and you can store 100 downloadable songs on the cart. You can also listen to Wi-Fi radio which is good and play songs other people have made Very Happy

There is a full gameplay video of the Rhythm Heaven demo on the JPN Nintendo channel:

It looks superb and I can't wait for the western release. I almost makes up for the lack of an EBA2 (who'm I kidding, no it doesn't Sad)

The DS is absolutely fantastic for rhythm games, I cant get enough of them! I spent ages playing Ouendan and EBA when they came out - they're probably the games i've gone back to most after finishing them - and i'm currently playing the first Taiko no Tatsujin, with Rhythm Tengoku coming through the post this week!

Taiko no Tatsujin series

Easiest way to describe it would be the equivalent of Donkey Konga for the DS. The bottom screen displays a large drum, while the top screen is your rhythm indicator - the aim? To simply use the two included styluses to hit either the drum, or the outside of the screen, in time with the song. What you'd expect really!

Couple of bullets of knowledge: There are two of these games in japan, and a rumour (campaign/online petition) to get it over to America. The tracklist is huge (first game: 36 songs, second: 40+) ranging from anime, J-pop, classical symphonies, and some of the most god-awful japanese nursery rhymes I never want to hear again. Its a very difficult game on the DS too, the styluses don't give you the best control sometimes, especially when you have to use your weaker hand to hit some fast timed notes.

Its not as good as Ouendan, but worth a look. I still really want the second one because you get Cruel Angel Thesis as a song (the Evangelion theme!) Both games fluctuate between £20 and £25 on play-asia, get them if you're interested.

*I have no idea how to post images on here, if anyone could help it'd be appreciated. Wink

Please do not forget Taiko No Tatsujin DS, I am obsessed with this game.

Please excuse the Japanese Tweedle Dee and Tweedle Dum; they really do not sell the game well to us Westerners.

But trust me on this when I say hitting your DS with novelty plastic drumsticks is probably the most fun you can ever have.

I love EBA, I play it so much. Completed Hard Rock back at the start of the year so was really pleased with that. 'Your the Insparation' gets me everytime though, when your eyes are watery it's so much harder to play. -.-

I really hope we get an EBA2. If not I'm on gunna have to import Ouedan.

Also I have to say GH:DS was much more enjoyable then ONM made it out to be, I've had great fun with it this summer, just have a few more songs to complete on Expert. Smile

We need another EBA game, stat! The original has the most epic final stage in gaming history. Who here didn't chant "E-B-A, E-B-A" as well, before diving into Jumpin' Jack Flash?

Okay, maybe it was just me. Embarassed

Samba De Amigo, Donkey Konga, Rythem Tangoku, Band Brothers (not really rythem game but...) and many others but coudn't get into it.

i tried my best but i never enjoyed them Sad

Thiiiiiiiiis.
Good Lord, I love Taiko no Tatsujin. Especially the sequel and it's incredibly long-winded name.

Also, am I the only one who shouts "OSU!" for no reason?

I too love rythm action, especially EBA and Guitar Hero. Here's some you missed:

Jam Sessions (sucks, extremely repetetive)
Looney Tunes: Cartoon Concerto (Never Played)
Happy Feet (A friend had this. It's very short but the EBA bits are, I confess, quite fun)
