ONM's 100 Greatest Nintendo Games Ever - Includes Spoilers

The magazine is out now so I can tell you about the free gift. It is a special supplement called ONM Presents... 100 Greatest Nintendo Games ever. We've been debating the list for a few months now but have finally come up with a list of our favourites.

You can debate the results here but please keep it to this thread and don't post anywhere else as we don't want to spoil the results for those who don't want to know...

The legend of Zelda: Link to the past should be somewhere in the top 15, and how about any Metroid games, Has to be at least one metroid game in the top 6. Such good classics to be listed.

Although I understand its influence on getting non-gamers to play, I don't really think Wii Sports should have been placed as high as it was. That's my major complaint about the game placing.

I wouldn't say that I thought the rest of the list was absolutely spot-on, but most of my disagreements are minor and not worth ranting about, while the rest of the time, I could nod my head and think 'yes, I understand why they placed such-and-such a game here'.

I fell off my chair when Mario Kart Wii came 4th.

I'm sorry, but I can't understand how one of the most revolutionary, visually and psyhically spectacular video games I've ever played could get 18th position.

Super Mario Bros 3 should have been higher. Huge worlds, warps, secrets, what more could you ask for? 4th place for me.

Oh dear the list is so wrong, why oh why did you rate SMB world above SMB 3? and why is Mario kart wii so high up the list? a good game it is, but even so the orginal was much better, and what about BRAWL!!! not even in the top 10! something very wrong there the one game on wii where eveything works together so nicely, i think you re think your list there chaps.

Super Mario Land 2 defined handheld gaming. 6 huge boss fights and a massive final castle, this game, is fantastic. 9th for me.

Mario Galaxy best for me.

1. If you rate SMB3 higher than SMB, how can they be 11 places apart?

2.Replace 15 with 5. Saying that tetris is better than brawl is...wrong.

3. And nearly all the games are in the wrong order for the rating you gave them eg. World of Goo got 95% in 83rd position and SMB got 93% in 1st.

I don't get how Super Mario Bros got first.

Sure, it's the best selling game of all time, and it inspired pretty much all platformers, and at the time it was revolutionary, but now it's showing age.

Surely the newer Mario games are better?

And also, Mario Kart Wii is an embarrasment to the series. How it got so far I'll never know.

I am going to say only one thing: Who was the plonker who decided Mario Kart Wii should come 4th? Seriously, it is no way top 50 material, never mind 4th.

Unbalanced weapons, computers spamming said un balanced weapons and therefore severe lack of fun in single player and when you're winning in multiplayer.

How the hell did Pokemon Red/Blue, the games that started the whole craze, only get 52nd place, yet Diamond/Pearl get 20th? What are you on?!


Overall the list is rubbish, many of those games don't deserve the places they got, some deserve better, some deserve lower, much much lower...

I only had one minor problem with it. I was merrily reading the countdown, properly, I had no idea what would be number one and didn't want to know 'til I got to the last page. I got to number 77 - The Legend of Zelda. Which gave away the number one game.

Top 10 i don't have many queries with...
BUT
Secret OF Mana... #81? Were you lot drunk?
Resi 4... VERY odd choice. Top 20 maybe, but not Top 10.
Pokemon Diamond And Pearl are no better than the originals. They've just got updated graphics and more pokemon. Playing Red feels more unique than Pearl.

Pikmin 2... Higher than Secret Of Mana... Again... Drunk?
Chrono Trigger... #31? For being known as one of the GREATEST GAMES OF ALL TIME... It seems a little low, don't you think?
Perfect Dark was a good game, but too high on the list.

Soul Caliber (i'm not using that awful spelling) II, very odd choice... And again, not better than Secret Of Mana.

Let me just say, ANY Sports game should NEVER be in a 'Top 100 games' list unless it's abut Sports ONLY.

A golf and football game... better than Secret OF Mana? Lunacy.

I can understand why Jet Force Gemini is kinda low, it wasn't overly loved... Still a wonderful game though.

You put games like Resident Evil and Metal Gear which aren't actually made by Nintendo, just on Nintendo consoles.

And Mario Kart Wii coming 4th is crazy, it shouldn't have even been in the last let alone 4th. Easily the worst Mario Kart.

This was a good list, and I am glad Jet Force Gemini got a mention, but some of the top games wouldn't be my tops.

Firstly, Super Metroid is my favourite 2D game, EVER. I had never played and completed a game as much as this one and I still have never found all the missile expansions! Epic.

Then, Wario Land 2, my personal favourite, deserves a place as the best GBC game created! Certainly in the top 50!

My top ten though, not particularly in this order, would be:-

Galaxy should have been a lot lower in my opinion, 64 is far superior. And how come Banjo-Kazooie and Donkey Kong country are so far down the list? Both games are full of charm and character! Anyway here's my top ten:
