Transcending history and the world, a tale of souls and swords, eternally retold

Throughout history, man has been searching for the legendary sword, simply known as Soul Edge. Nothing much is known about this sword, which makes it even more valued.

One day, there are rumours of a tournament going on. The prize is rumoured to be Soul Edge. Hearing this, 23 fighters sign up and battle each other for the sword.

Welcome to the Soul League. Apologies about the simplistic story, but this isn’t an RPG, so it won’t play like that. Instead, it’s a simulation using Soul Calibur II’s Battle Theatre. You select one of 23 weapons and then battle each other through a battle system I created, whereby everyone will face everyone. Since there are an odd number of fighters, every round, someone will sit out. This will be a different person every time, so the scores will still be fair.

Here are the weapons available to you, and their wielders for Tournament 1. (Some people have already chosen their weapons in the forum games thread).

Katana and Flagstaff: Irish Monkey
Twin Katars: Yinga Garten
Short sword and small shield: Terra Branford
Zanbatou: The Ring Lord
Sword and Shield: Giovanni

Berserker Axe: Super Mario 135

Here are the specifics of each weapon.

The Hylian Sword and Shield is the only one to use different attacks from the other swords and shields. It even lets you use a bow, a boomerang and bombs.
The Enigma transforms into other weapons. Moves with this weapon are a mixture of what others are capable of.
Random will let you use a different weapon each round, except for the Hylian sword and Shield, Enigma, Assassin Blade, sword and shield or Berserker Axe.
The Rod and Zanbatou are similar weapons, the difference being that the rod has more moves.
The Katana with the Flagstaff has a different set of moves to the Katana by itself.
The standard sword and shield actually has the least moves.

Unlockable weapons are not available to the wielders of the Assassin Blade, Berserker Axe and Sword and Shield. They will be noted and acquired if you change to a different weapon at the end of the tournament. Same goes for the person who chooses Random Weapons.

Terminology (Skip this section if you’ve played SCII):
Soul Charge: Using this makes attacks more powerful. However, this does give your opponent an easy chance to attack you. I will inform you if this happens during a battle.
Grab: Your not limited to your weapon. You can grab your opponent if nearby and attack them by throwing them.
Kick: You can kick your opponent, though certain contenders will be more capable with kicks. In addition, the Zweihander and Axe wielders can stomp and use other body parts. The Chinese Long sword, Katana and Flagstaff, Twin Ninja Swords and Nunchaku wielders are more capable of kicks.
Ring Out: A win condition, achieved by knocking the other person out. I will inform you about the nature of the arena.
Guard Break: By guarding at a specific point, your opponent can be put in a disadvantageous position, allowing you to easily attack.
Unblockable: Everyone has special moves that can’t be blocked. If your fighter gets one of these in, your sure to have an advantage.
Just a brief on different terms. Whether they get used is down to the computer.

Unlockables

By achieving enough points, new weapons can be unlocked. When you win the tournament, you win Soul Edge. If you’ve already won Soul Edge, you get more weapons on the right end of the selection to use.

During tournaments, if you switch weapons, the new wielder will not have accessed to the weapons you unlocked when you used that weapon. You will unlock new weapons of your new speciality for use in the next tournament.
